Google and Meta must pay several billion won (tens of millions of dollars) in fines in South Korea due to violations of data privacy laws.

The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) wrote in a statement that Google must pay 69.2 billion won ($50 million) and Meta 30.8 billion won ($22 million) because the two companies did not comply with data privacy laws.
Google allegedly did not ask users whether data could be collected for analyzing user behavior. The same applies to Meta. Needless to say, the two corporations do not agree with the PIPC's decision.
Google and Meta will read the PIPC's decision in full and will then review it. However, both corporations claim that they always protect the privacy of South Korean users.
